Old Town Kayak Rod Tube Plates
These plates offer a wide range of uses for the stock rod tube locations. Turn your unused rod tube into an accessory mount, through hull wiring port or even an electrical port for nav lights or other uses. All plates are designed to reuse the factory mounting screws.
Plate Options:
Low Profile Blank Plate - Simple way to delete the OEM rod tube. Drilling this plate to mount accessories is not recommended due to its thin profile.
Drillable Blank Plate - This plate is manufactured solid and designed for those that need to drill their own locations. Use caution when drilling/tapping. We are happy to take custom requests so please send us a message.
Gridloc Mighty Mount Plate - Available as the plate only or with the Gridloc Mighty Mount included. Both options will include nuts and screws for mounting the Mighty Mount.
30mm Outlet Plate - This plate is designed to accept common USB power outlets and other devices that mount in a 30mm hole with a threaded ring that locks them on the back. Power Outlet Not Included
1/4-20 Stud Plate - This plate is just a simple 1/4-20 stud for mounting typical kayak accessories. The stock stud is 3/4" long consisting of a stainless 1/4-20 hex bolt. This bolt can be replaced with longer bolts to suit your needs.
Thru Hull Wiring Plate - Available as the plate only or with a single, generic thru hull wiring kit. This plate is designed to host the older (Not Gridloc) style thru hull wiring kit made by Yakattack but may work with many other off brand options available on Amazon and other outlets. Check out our custom flexible inserts available for the thru hull wiring kits. Gridloc YA version coming soon!
Attwood LightArmor Plate - Available as the plate only or with either a 2 pin or 3 pin base depending on your needs. A great way to repurpose your rod tube to create a place to mount your nav light or other electrical devices.

All plates include a foam gasket and any necessary hardware to mount aftermarket products. See product photos to see what is included.
Please note, these plates are held onto the kayak only by 3 screws directly into the plastic. It is strongly advised that you do not mount accessories that will put a lot of strain on these mounting screws.

These plates are thick and fit the space where the rod tube is. I did a stronger modification to ensure my replacement rod holders will stay in place in case fish takes my line or I snag something. I have not used them yet as of this posting but am confident they will be stronger than using just the three original screws. Please keep in mind this is only a suggestion and my technique.
What you will need:
2 x Old Town Kayak Rod Tube (delete) Plates, Drillable Blank Plates.
6 x Well nuts 10x32x1”
6 x Screws 10x32x1.5” pan head, stainless steel, Phillips head
2 x Scotty (or other brand) Low Profile Tracks 3”
8 x Panhead screws, stainless steel
Electric Drill
Small drill bit for pilot holes
3/8 drill bit for well nuts
Fine tipped Sharpie
Phillips head screwdriver
The steps I took:
Trace the outline of the head on the well nut over the existing holes in the water barrier (felt padding provided by manufacturer).
Use an exacto knife to cut the holes in the barrier.
Remove rod holder tubes from the kayak.
Enlarge (drill) the holes that held the tube screws so the well nuts will fit.
Place the well nuts in the enlarged holes.
Place the water barrier so the well nut heads fit in the holes in the water barrier.
Place Old Town Kayak Rod Tube (delete) Plates and insert 10x32x1.5” screws and then tighten to secure firmly.
Position track piece to desired location on delete plate.
Using a fine tipped Sharpie, mark desired screw positions and remove plate.
Using a small drill bit, drill four pilot holes at marked locations.
Place the track rail and secure snuggly with screws. Be careful not to overtighten to avoid cracking delete plate.
My experience with using well nuts on my kayaks has been good in the past. They flatten out on the underside and expand, providing weight distribution, they also provide a watertight seal at the hole. I went with 1.5 in screws and 1 inch well nuts so it would provide a better grip and make it through the hull thickness.

Great design. I especially like the right side being shaded and still allowing access to my controls. It slides on easy but never makes feel like I need to worry about it falling off. (Stored during transport). And he’s got a great logo on top. I would recommend this to anyone regardless of the brand of mapping/fish finder you use.

These mounts are awesome! I looked at some of the mounts from other companies before buying, these are better designed and cheaper than the other options I looked at. Installation was super easy, and they angle the Anchor Wizard into the "sweet spot", far enough from the seat to work the crank easy, but still out of the way of my paddle stroke. Great job with this design!
